Gail has released 5 Albums over the years. Her 5th, “Simple Truth” includes songs produced by close friend and mega-talented Patrick Simmons of the Doobie Brothers. Pat lined up A-list players for this project and even added some of his own incredible guitar work and harmonies. This CD includes two duets featuring Gail's friend Willie Nelson and one duet featuring the epic soulful voice of her friend Michael McDonald. More special musical guests include friends Hutch Hutchinson (increduble bassist friend who helped when he was not on the road with Bonnie Raitt), John McFee from the Doobies and Mickey Rafael (Willie's long time harmonica player.) This CD definitely "took a village" to create and really came to life thanks to everyone.
Gail's style is indie acoustic singer/songwriter, heavily influenced by a wide range of singer/songwriters including Ani Difranco, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge, Lisa Loeb, Edie Brickell, Bonnie Raitt and more. Currently Gail prefers to do acoustic solo performances where she can interact with the audience. Gail has opened for some great artists who played on Maui over the years: Melissa Etheridge, Lisa Loeb, The Doobie Brothers, Leon Russell, David Crosby, Jon Anderson, The Radiators, Cecilio and Kapono and more. And she has played numerous times with Willie, Pat and Michael, its been quite a ride. She has also played at Willie Nelson's Maui Music Festival where Gail and her band have shared the lineup with Jack Johnson, Los Lonely Boys and Ricki Lee Jones.
BMI award winning singer/songwriter, Kristy Jackson, has had singles with artists on Giant, MCA, Curb and Universal including 2 Grammy winning artists and is a member of BMI's Millionaire club as both songwriter and publisher. As an artist herself, she had the #1 most requested song on the largest radio stations in New York and other major markets after 9/11, "Little Did She Know (She'd Kissed A Hero)" and raised over $30,000 for 9/11 charities. Her songs have also been featured in films by Disney, Universal and Endemol Productions.
In 2011 she created a 501c3 Non-Profit called Triad Musicians Matter to aid professional musicians in the Triad area in North Carolina who are struggling financially due to sudden illness, accident, disease, and displacement from home due to natural disaster. In Jan. 2022, she added an additional mission called The Guitar Resettlement Project where she gives donated and refurbished guitars to refugees who resettle in the Triad area.
“Working on Gail Swanson’s latest project was definitely one my years highlights. Some of Gail’s best work, and making music with my good friends on the beautiful Island of Maui......It doesn't get any better than that. Not hard to tell that lots of Aloha went into this recording.”— Michael McDonald
"Gail is one of our closest friends here in Maui. She opened the Doobies' first concert at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center 15 years ago. Since then we have played together many times, shared a lot of musical ideas, and enjoyed the opportunity to explore writing and recording together. It's been so much fun, and I'm real proud of her and the CD." - Pat Simmons
"I just had the pleasure of singing and playing a great song, The One That Got Away, with Gail Swanson, my good friend from Maui. Check it out I think you will love the whole CD. She is the real deal. Aloha!" - Willie Nelson
